Updating Desktops

  • Existing instances of the Agent on persistent desktops will auto-update.
  • Non-persistent desktops and published templates do not auto-update.
    • To update the Agent in non-persistent pools, update their templates.
    • To update a template, clone it and allow the agent to auto-update on the new template, then publish it and apply it to your desktop pools, as described below.

Updating Templates

To update templates:

  • Clone the existing template via “Setup > Cloud > cloudname > old_templatename > Clone.”
  • The cloned template will automatically boot into Draft mode and update the Agent after a brief delay.
  • When the Agent is updated (as shown in the “Agent Version” column), Publish the template via “Setup > Cloud > cloudname > new_templatename > Publish.”
  • Persistent pools. Existing desktops will ignore the updated template, but freshly created desktops will use it.
    • Existing desktops will auto-update to the new Agent.
      • You can verify the desktop update status by looking at the Agent Version column in the list of desktops in “Resources > VDI Pools > poolname.”
      • In the unlikely event that a desktop refuses to update automatically, you can install the Agent manually.
      • If you made other changes to the template, you can optionally force any unassigned desktops to use the new template by editing the desktop pool to enable the “Auto Create on Delete Desktop” option and then deleting the unassigned desktops. They will be rebuilt from the new template.
    • Nonpersistent pools. You can update your nonpersistent desktops pools to use the new template. Go to via “Resources > VDI Pools > poolname > Update Image.”
    • Select the newly published template by clicking “Select New,” then “Search.” Scroll until you find your new template, then press “Select.”
    • In the Schedule field, select the “On Log Off” button and set the “Force Update at” field to a future date (for example, three days in the future). Desktops will be updated when users sign off (or their sessions time out) or when the forced update time occurs, whichever happens first.
    • Click “Save.”
