Donald Van Patten -

Date:                                Sept 1, 2017

End of Support:              Control – Microsoft Windows Server 2008 RDS Farms

Effected Product(s):       Workspot Control – Session Host server support

Effective Release:           Control R5

Effected Platforms:         All

The Microsoft Windows Server 2008 operating system has reached its end of support in Jan 2015. Workspot is ending support for the legacy operating system with the next update of Control which is scheduled for Sept 22, 2017.

Customers running on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, should upgrade to Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2016 for their application virtualization infrastructure. The Workspot customer support team is available to assist you with this migration.

Q: What happens if I have farms deployed with the operating system?

A: Existing applications and services deployed with the operating system will not be effected. New application configuration will not have “Microsoft RDS 2008 Farm” as a server type when deploying Windows Applications (the field will not be selectable). Editing of existing application settings will remain un-effected.

Q: Why is this happening now?

A: Workspot has reviewed the installed base of servers and the number of customers using this version of the operating system. Further development, testing and support is not justified for this platform. With this EOL announcement, Workspot will shift resources to current platforms.

Q: What devices are effected?

A: Services that are deployed using Windows Applications and RD Pools. Customers should deploy applications with the newer OS and to select the corresponding server version in the dropdown options. Connecting to the legacy server OS desktop is supported.
